There’s no denying the landscape of legal marijuana has made a dent in people’s perceptions of the plant. Decades ago, the green leaf served as a representation of marijuana counterculture. Now, however, with it’s increasing legality, it represents a sweeping change throughout our nation, as we move towards a foreseeable end to prohibition. While this is certainly good news for most of us, some hardcore stoners apparently prefer the rush of smoking the illegal stuff. At least one staple of the cannabis community apparently thinks so, as Cheech and Chong say that weed lost its edge thanks to legalization.

Is Weed No Longer ‘Cool’?

On ‘The Late Show’ last night, host Stephen Colbert seemed genuinely surprised that former GOP House Speaker John Boehner had done a complete 180 regarding his views on cannabis.

The Republican lawmaker was a notoriously staunch opponent of marijuana legalization, but apparently has changed his tune, seemingly overnight. Earlier this month, the man who once declared he was ‘unalterably opposed’ to the decriminalization of the plant, announced he was appointed to the board of directors for Acreage Holdings, a multi-state cannabis business fighting for lesser marijuana restrictions.

Colbert, stunned by the news, figured he’d need to check in with two ‘experts’ in pot culture and welcomed Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin to the show, via live stream.

According to the duo, the Boehner news served as a bit of a bummer.

“Actually Stephen, we think this news sucks,” Marin said. “I mean, pot used to be rebellious.”

“Yeah, now crusty old Republicans like John Boehner are into it,” Chong added.”Pots over, man.”
