Deaths from opioid overdoses continue to increase

McFadden said when the Center for Disease Control finally categorized opioid overdoses an epidemic, she thought it had been a long time coming. The CDC reports that opioids killed more than 42,000 people in 2016, and 40 percent of all opioid overdose deaths involved a prescription opioid.
