Gimble said it's the active ingredient, loperamide, which doctors say acts on opioid receptors in the gut to slow movement in the intestines. Apparently, opioid abusers will take hundreds of pills or down several liquid bottles to either get high or to curb withdrawal symptoms until they can get more opioids.
