Oscar-winning producer Wendy Finerman — known for turning such books as “Forrest Gump” and “The Devil Wears Prada” into blockbuster movies — has optioned “Rouge,”[1] by adman and author Richard Kirshenbaum.

The novel, due June 25 from St. Martin’s Press, fictionalizes the real-life female rivals who built the modern beauty business in the 20th century by innovating new products at lightning speed.

Finerman called Kirshenbaum the second she finished the galley St. Martin’s sent her, and is working with CAA on the project.

A-list actresses are said to be vying for the lead roles, characters based on Helena Rubinstein and Elizabeth Arden. I’m picturing Rachel Brosnahan and Tina Fey.
