David Hogg and Cameron Kasky — survivors of the Parkland, Fla., school shooting[1] — were all over New York this week, and the teenagers will stay in the national spotlight for years to come.
The boys made a surprise appearance at a West 72nd Street book party on Monday night. They joined author Rick Allen to launch “RFK: His Words for Our Times[2],” a collection of Robert F. Kennedy’s speeches, at the penthouse of Matt Gohd, of Tipping Point Analytics.
“Honored to celebrate the release of a book about this incredibly inspiring man,” Kasky tweeted[3].
Gohd was vacating the apartment the next day to move to Santa Monica, Calif., and launch the Families vs. Assault Rifles PAC with five Parkland parents.
Gohd apologized to RFK’s daughter, Kerry Kennedy, because he wouldn’t be able to host a party for her book, “Ripples of Hope[4],” coming out June 5, in time for the 50th anniversary of her father’s assassination.
Hogg, 18, and Kasky, 17, had a busy schedule. A few hours earlier, Hogg was presented an award at the Common Good Forum by Michael Bloomberg, along with a $2,500 scholarship.
“This battle will not take days or years, it will take lifetimes,” Hogg said.
The following night, Kasky was honored at the PEN Literary Gala at the American Museum of Natural History, where Morgan Freeman also presented an award to Stephen King.
